Blairsville, GA (January 6, 2026) – The GBI has arrested and charged Towns County Sheriff’s Office Major John McCoy with Theft by Deception, Violation of Oath of Office, and three counts of False Statements and Writings. In July of 2025, the GBI was requested by Enotah Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Joy Parks to investigate a theft allegation within the accountability court program.

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A former Towns County deputy has been arrested and accused of stealing guns from the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said. The GBI said Andrew Glass was arrested after the Towns County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate two guns that went missing from the office’s gun inventory.

Towns County sheriff suspended by Gov. Kemp following fight with Hiawassee police officer
TOWNS COUNTY, Ga. — Towns County Sheriff Kenneth Henderson has been suspended for 60 days by Gov. Brian Kemp following a physical confrontation with a local police officer in 2024, Atlanta News First reported. Under Georgia law, the governor can suspend a sheriff for up to 60 days following a misconduct investigation by a panel that includes the attorney general and two sheriffs.
